A DOCX file is a Microsoft Word document in the Open XML format introduced with Word 2007. You do not need to buy Microsoft Office to open one. LibreOffice Writer, Google Docs, and Word for the web all handle DOCX for free. To share a fixed copy, open the file and export it as PDF.

Is my .DOCX file uploaded anywhere?

Why does my older .DOCX file look plain?
Some older word-processor files keep their formatting in a complex binary layout. The viewer shows all the text and tables reliably; richer formatting for those files is coming with server-side conversion.
Are macros in a .DOCX file safe here?
Yes. The viewer never runs macros. It only reads the document text, styles and images, and tells you when a file contains macros.
Can I edit my .DOCX file?

We check the file's signature, not just its name. If a file was renamed, the viewer tells you what it really is and which tool opens it.
